Red Mountain Lodge

The Red Mountain Lodge is an ideal place to overnight or to spend a few peaceful days on a trip along Route 62. Just 14km beyond Calitzdorp take the left hand turn to Kruisrivier and six kilometers further you will find our haven. If you are driving from Oudtshoorn the turn off is to your right, 26km from town.

The Klein Karoo appears to be arid but it supports a wide diversity of plants, birds and animals. As you relax at the Red Mountain Lodge the wonders of the veld will reveal themselves. Miriad succulents, countless small leaved bushes, tiny seed-eating birds and majestic birds of prey, little tent tortoises and their huge mountain tortoise cousins, Karoo hares, grysbok and perhaps even kudu.

The scenery is majestic. The red mountains - orange-hued faces slashed with green lichen, contrast with the Swartberg which constantly change colour as clouds and sunbeams play across their surface.

You can laze in the valley or set out on leisurely day drives to discover the district. Return for a drink as the sun sets, followed by a relaxed dinner.

There are few places in the world where you can see the stars as clearly - no light disturbs your view and the air is so clear that you might reach out and touch the milky way.
